A photo of Tom CashmerOur beloved brother, Thomas Joseph Cashmer, left this world to be with Our Lord on Friday, September 6, 2024. Tom was 90. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Tom was an honorary life member with the Knights of Columbus Cardinal Stritch Council #4620 with more than 40 years of service holding many council offices, including a term as Grand Knight. He was very active in all of the council’s events, but will be remembered for his smile, his wisdom and his sense of humor.

He was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Church where he served as lector, cantor, choir member, and CCD teacher. H He was a member of the Lake County Master Gardeners and participated in projects at Buckley Homestead, Deep River County Park and Hidden Lake Park.

Formerly of La Porte, IN, he worked as a designing engineer of railroad cars for 25 years, retiring in 1998 from Amerail. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war.

Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary. He is survived by his three children: Chris (Barry) Davis, Valerie (Donald) Keiser, and Janet (Eric) Knox; six grandchildren: Jessica Cadle-Powers, Justin Cadle, Mark (Crystal) Wittig, Donald (Kori) Keiser, Samantha (Eric) Terry, Frank Knox; seven great grandchildren: Cadence Giese, Marcus Wittig, Ariana Wittig, Kaila Keiser, Jaxson Powers, Meelia Keiser, Grace Wittig; two great-great grandchildren: Mary Tarka, Cooper Allen; one sister-Kay Fenn; one brother-Bob (Fran) Cashmer, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 11:00 am directly at St. Matthias Catholic Church Parish, 101 W. Burrell Drive, Crown Point IN. The memorial visitation will be held following the mass at Burns Funeral Home & Crematory, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point IN, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
