Arthur Eugene Loomis, Jr.
March 22, 1921 – September 22, 2017
Art Loomis, Jr. was the living embodiment of what a Knight of Columbus should be. Not only was he a founding member of Cardinal Stritch Council 4620 in Crown Point, but he was an active member, holding the office of State Membership chairman and delegate for the State of Indiana council. Art also served as a working member of the Supreme Council in his lifetime.
Art passed away Friday, September 22nd at Methodist Hospital in Merrillville, IN. due to complications from congestive heart failure. He was 96.
Art also proudly served our country in WWII as a member of the U.S. Navy as a metal smith. While stationed at Palmyra Islands, South Pacific, he was baptized by the Navy Chaplain, Fr. Kolick. In his later years, Art had the honor of being selected by the Veterans Administration for not one , but two Freedom Flights.
Months after his discharge, he married his beautiful bride, Betty Gregas in 1946. At Art’s request, Fr. Kolick married Art and Betty at All Saints Church in Hammond, IN. They moved from Hammond, IN to Crown Point, IN.
Art was passionately involved with the Knights of Columbus Cardinal Stritch Council #4620 of Crown Point, IN and Abraham Lincoln Assembly #235.
He was passionate about golf. Art traveled the U.S. and abroad enjoying his game. He was a Ranger at Oak Knoll Golf Course. Many friendships were created.
Art has been a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and altar boy for many years.
Art leaves behind seven children. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Betty; his parents, brothers and a sister.
We join the many that loved this man and we pray for his daughter Laurie and the rest of Art’s family.
