Good Turnout at 2016 Youth Free Throw Championship
The Cardinal Stritch Council #4620 held it’s annual Free Throw Competition on Saturday, January 16th. This year the event was held at the On The Square Sports Academy.
Cardinal Stritch Council 4620 thanks Dennis Morton and his staff at On The Square Sports Academy for helping make this event as successful as it was.
This years competitors, ten boys, ages 9 to 14, were very good and ad fun shooting hoops for an hour on a Saturday morning. The following boys took home the title of Local Champion in their individual age brackets:
9 Year-Old: Nick Wool (12/15)
10 Year-Old: Cameron Angerman (8/15)
11 Year-Old: Jake Wool (8/15)
12 Year-Old: Logan Angerman (12/15)
13 Year-Old: Johnny Parker (8/15)
14 Year-Old: Justin Mayer (13/15)
Each winner received a new basketball and advanced to the Regional Championship to be held on February 6th at St. John the Evangelist School in St. John, IN. The winners then move on the District Championship. All the shooters received a certificate and patch for participating in this year’s event.
The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. International champions are announced by the K of C international headquarters based on scores from the state-level competitions. All boys and girls 9 to 14 years old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. Last year more than 120,000 sharpshooters participated in over 3,600 local competitions.
The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic family fraternal service organization with over 1.8 million members in 15,000 local councils.
