Vincent J. “Vince” Columbo

August 18, 1938 – February 7, 2024

We announce the death of another of our founding and beloved members, Vincent J. “Vince” Columbo. Vince passed peacefully on February 11, 2024 at the age of 85.

Vince Columbo was the heart and soul of Cardinal Stritch Council #4620. He served our council with devotion and honor for much of it’s 64 years. Vince held many offices during his duty with the Order including serving as Grand Knight twice.

He will be remembered for his humor, passion and generosity. Vince was a knight known to put everything he could into any challenge that confronted the council. It was in the late 1960’s when our council was on the brink of dissolve that Vince and Rich Schweitzer were asked to lead our the council and bring back to good standing status. The fact that our council has been in operation for almost 65 years is a testament to those two men. Vince not only served as Grand Knight, but went on to be the long time Council Family Activities Chairman, organizing such activities as the annual pool party and council picnic.

Vince proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member and usher at St. Mary Catholic Church for over 20 years. He was a Grocery Store Manager for many years and worked for John Hancock Insurance for eight years. After retirement, he worked for the City of Crown Point as a School Crossing Guard at South and Lake streets for many years. Vince also enjoyed traveling with his family.

Vince is survived by his daughters Gina Marie Colombo and Lana Louise (Jack) Kish; his grandchildren  Kevin and Brandon Kish; his great-grandchild Maveric Kish; as well as his best friend, Genzo.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary Louise Colombo; grandchildren: Kelly and Bryan Kish; parent: Sam and Rose Colombo; sister, Antionette (Toni) Jovanovic; brother, Sam Colombo; daughter-in-law, Gail Beloff; and best friend, Tootsie.

Prayers will be held at the Funeral Home at 9:15 AM on Monday, February 12, 2024. Due to the unavailability of St. Mary Church, funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday at St. Matthias Catholic Church, 101 W Burrell Dr. in Crown Point, with Fr. Kevin Huber officiating.

Interment to follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Crown Point, IN.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Vince’s name to St. Mary Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
